School of Mathematics and Physics

The School of Mathematics and Physics of NCEPU was founded in 2003, and its predecessor was the Mathematics and Physics Teaching and Research Section of the Basic Department of Beijing Electric Power College established in 1958. The school currently has a second-level discipline of doctorate degree authorization, namely System Analysis, Operational Research and Control, 2 first-level disciplines of master’s degree authorization, namely Mathematics and Physics, 5 second-level disciplines of master’s degree authorization, namely Computational Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Operational Research and Cybernetics, Theoretical Physics, and Condensed Matter Physics. Among them, the Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics are key disciplines in Hebei Province; the school has the master’s degree program of Applied Statistics and two undergraduate majors of Information and Computing Science and Applied Physics. The School of Mathematics and Physics currently has 110 faculty members, including 25 professors, 38 associate professors, 10 doctoral supervisors and 79 master supervisors. It has 93 full-time teachers, of which 79 have doctorate degrees, accounting for 84.9% of the total number of full-time teachers. After years of construction, the School of Mathematics and Physics has formed a team of teachers with a reasonable age structure, with young and middle-aged teachers as the academic backbone, and with good teacher ethics and a high-level of teaching and research. A number of famous teaching teachers have emerged in the school, including 1 chief expert in the "Eleventh Five-Year" national science and technology project, 2 Beijing famous teaching teachers, 1 "Beijing Trans-century Outstanding Talent", and 1 "Beijing Education Innovation Model", 1 famous teaching teacher of Hebei Province, 1 winning the "Young Teacher Award of Colleges and Universities of Fok Ying Tung Education Foundation", 2 Beijing Outstanding Young Teachers, 1 of "Beijing Outstanding Talents" Support Program, and 1 "Advanced Individual of Teacher Ethics in Beijing".

The School of Mathematics and Physics has multiple experimental teaching platforms such as the Institute of Basic Mathematics, the Institute of Applied Mathematics, the Institute of Systems Science, the Institute of Condensed Matter Physics, the Institute of Clusters and Low-Dimensional Nanomaterials, the Institute of Particle and Nuclear Physics, the Mathematics Teaching Center, the Physic Teaching Center, the Physics Experiment Teaching Center, the Mathematical Modeling Innovation Base, and the Information and Computing Science Laboratory, providing good conditions and platforms for talent training.

In 2012, closely focusing on country's major strategic needs of the energy and power, the School of Mathematics and Physics continued to improve its scientific and technological innovation capabilities. Among the annual projects approved by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, our department has been approved for 14 projects, including 4 general programs, 7 youth programs, and 3 special fund programs. The annual vertical research funding reaches RMB 4.33 million. The school has published 47 high-level papers (Level A&B), and 28 papers are included in SCI/SSCI/AHCI. It has won one second prize of Hebei Natural Science and Technology Award. Its education and teaching results are remarkable, guiding undergraduates to participate in the Contemporary Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling, winning 1 national first prize and 7 national second prizes, 9 first prizes and 12 second prizes in Beijing; under the guidance of the school, the postgraduates performed outstandingly in the Ninth National Post-Graduate Mathematic Contest in Modeling, ranking among the top universities in the country in terms of award-winning grades and numbers, and won 1 first prize, 8 second prizes, and 7 third prizes. Its level and number of awards in the National Post-Graduate Mathematic Contest in Modeling hit a record high, further increasing the influence of NCEPU’s students in the Contemporary Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling and the National Post-Graduate Mathematic Contest in Modeling.

Led by discipline construction, closely centering on the school's discipline construction and discipline development direction, the school has formed four characteristics development positioning including distinctive curriculum system, an excellent faculty, outstanding ability training, and active scientific research. It has formed high-level mathematics and science disciplines with excellent teaching facilities, advanced scientific research platforms, great teaching quality and fruitful research results.
