School of Environmental Science and Engineering

I. The development history of college

The School of Environment and Chemical Engineering of NCEPU aims to mainly cultivate senior technical personnel and senior management personnel involving to diverse fields, including environment, chemistry, chemical engineering and many other fields to meeting the demands of electric power system and other industries.


In order to adapt to the strategic needs of the social economic sustainable development and energy environment in our country, and providing policy advisory, technical support and talent guarantee for the innovative development of the country, society and industry. According to the evolution demand of “bulk power” subject system, the school established School of Environment and Chemical Engineering (donated as Environmental-Chemistry Department) at Beijing campus in 2014. Currently, this department has set up Environmental Engineering Teaching and Research Section, Applied Chemistry Teaching and Research Section, General Laboratory and other institutions, and the subject construction was coordinated by College of Environmental Science and Engineering. Environmental-Chemistry Department not only has emerging professional advantages for strong rising, and but also possessing historical heritage for the power characteristics of professional in our school, which is a characteristic discipline with the combination of old and new sources, prospective and great development potential.


Environmental-Chemistry Department will be based on the exerting characteristic subjects and advantages, and further developing subject direction under higher starting point, higher standards and higher levels. In addition, it will through various strategies to play an important role and values in the field about Cultivating high-quality innovative talents for environmental and chemical industry, such as positive to introducing needed talents, converging excellent teaching faculty and strengthen the construction of the platform.


The environmental engineering in College of Environmental Science and Engineering of NCEPU (Baoding campus) was set up in 1978, and with the development of nearly forty years with Environment Research Institute of our school, which has been a dominant subject with high level and distinctive characteristics among domestic colleges and universities. Based on the demands of national electric power industry, it has also set up chemistry major with high practicability, and this major is mainly aiming to support senior engineering and technical personnel in the field of applied chemistry for national electric power industry and other departments.


II. Faculty

Professor Wang Xiangke, who was the winners of national outstanding youth science fund in 2012, was appointed as director of School of Environment and Chemical Engineering and vice-president of College of Environmental Science and Engineering. Moreover, he is also the high cited scientist about environment and ecology and engineering in Thomson Reuters, which is one of the thirteen high cited scientists about two various subject fields in China. In recent five years, he has published 180 SCI research papers and 10 invited reviews, which has been cited over 7000 times and his H-factor has reached 62. Moreover, he holds the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), major national scientific research project plan project 973 and the Chinese academy of sciences dean fund project, who have two research paper selected as China's most influential international academic papers in the same year.


Professor Peng Lin was appointed as deputy director of School of Environment and Chemical Engineering and vice-president of College of Environmental Science and Engineering. She has been engaging in haze pollution source and prevention research for a long time, and she focus on the research of analysis on air particulate matter sources repeatedly. Furthermore, she provided technical services for environmental protection frequently (i.e., air pollution controlling, environmental planning, ecological construction and coal mining ecological restoration), and she directed and completed the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), special national public welfare industry research, provincial environmental protection projects and other parts of the project over 60 items. She has published representative papers over 50 papers, and including some papers published in Environmental Science & Technology (EST) or other International key journal.


Meanwhile, the college has introduced professor Wang Suhua, who is the Chinese academy of sciences “one hundred plan” list, and introduced many high level doctor and post-doctoral from high level scientific research colleges and universities abroad, including Japan, Sweden, Germany, France and others. The college has built up an excellent and available faculty teams with reasonable knowledge structure, high academic level and experienced at teaching, where over 90% of those young teachers possess doctoral degree.


III. Research and subject construction

School of Environment and Chemical Engineering focus on deepening teaching reformation, adjusting major structure and facilitating the interpenetration between basic course and professional course with the interpenetration of multidisciplinary, which can increase specialist construction and thus improve the quality of education substantially. It has an annual intake of undergraduates for environmental engineering and applied chemistry, master for environmental science and environmental engineering, the doctoral student for energy and renewable energy with clean energy environment engineering.



IV. Cultivation of Undergraduates

The undergraduate education starting from the need of comprehensive development of students, and in regarding “solidifying foundations, emphasize ability, emphasizing innovation and comprehensive development” as a guiding ideology for talent cultivation. With the rapid reform and development of higher education and teaching and through improving the talent-producing program, it has constructed talent cultivation system based on the goal to highlight “practical ability development ability innovation ability”.


During the theoretical teaching, it also focuses on strengthening the students’ practical ability. The professional demands of undergraduate requires students to access the lab for completing experimental subject, and some excellent students can communicate scientific research and experiment together with their tutors, and the tutors will combine with students to complete the study of science.


The teaching management of undergraduate proposed an implement credit system, and providing flexibility apprenticeships, implements the main or minor system, allowing students to interdisciplinary course and also allowing outstanding students choose professional. The school has an exemption where can recommend at postgraduate qualifications, and always attaches importance to the cultivation of the undergraduates, paying attention to students’ personal development. The school always adhering talent cultivation as the fundamental task and regard the teaching quality as the lifeline of the development of the school, which can ensure the central position of undergraduate teaching. In addition, an excellent talents work pattern about comprehensive cultivating was formed with the characterization of education, management, environment and service for talents under omnidirectional, which has trained numerous high level and high level talents.
