School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering

The School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering of NCEPU was originally the Department of Electric Power Engineering when the university was founded in 1958. In 1961, the three majors of 'Power Plant Power Network and Power System', 'High Voltage Technology' and 'Power Economy and Enterprise Organization' of Harbin Institute of Technology were merged, which laid the foundation for the school. After relocation, adjustment, merger and development, in Jul. 2006, the former School of Electrical Engineering and School of Electronics and Information Engineering merged to form the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. It has its headquarter in Beijing, the Department of Electrical Engineering and the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering set up in Baoding. The school currently has 414 faculty members and 4,230 enrolled students, including 2,673 undergraduates, 1,322 postgraduates, and 235 doctoral candidates.


The school has '985 Project Innovation Platform', the national key discipline of Power System and Automation, and the Beijing municipal key discipline of Electrical Engineering; the postdoctoral programme of Electrical Engineering, and the conferral right of doctoral degree in the first-level discipline of Electrical Engineering; the conferral right of academic master degree in 3 first-level disciplines of Electrical Engineering, Information and Communication Engineering, and Electronic Science and Technology and the second-level discipline of Agricultural Electrification and Automation; the conferral right of master of engineering in Electrical Engineering and Electronics and Communication Engineering; in 2017, in the fourth round of discipline evaluation by the Ministry of Education of the P.R.C, the discipline of Electrical Engineering of our school was evaluated as A, and it entered the ranks of the national 'First-class universities and disciplines of the world' and made a historic breakthrough.


The school has 7 undergraduate majors, including Electrical Engineering and Automation, Smart Grid Information Engineering, Communication Engineering, Electronics and Information Engineering, Electronic Science and Technology, Electronic Information Science and Technology, and Agricultural Electrification. Among them, Electrical Engineering and Automation and Smart Grid Information Engineering are state-level characteristic majors; Electrical Engineering and Automation was selected in the first batch of the 'Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program' of the Ministry of Education, and has passed China Engineering Education Certification for three times. At present, the school has 1 national teaching master, 5 provincial and ministerial teaching masters, and 3 Beijing excellent teaching teams. It has prepared three state-level excellent resource-sharing programs, and published 9 state-level standardized textbooks. The school has the National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center for Electrical Engineering, the National Engineering Practice Education Center for College Students, Beijing Electrical and Electronic Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center and the Smart Grid Experimental Teaching Center, which provide a good platform for talent cultivation. In the past five years, the school has carried out fruitful educational and teaching reform, and won 3 first prizes and 5 second prizes for educational and teaching achievements at provincial and ministerial levels.


The school has 8 national, provincial and ministerial key laboratories and research centers such as the State Key Laboratory of Alternate Electrical Power System with Renewable Energy Sources, Beijing Key Laboratory of High Voltage and Electromagnetic Compatibility, Beijing Research Center for Energy and Power Information Security Engineering Technology, and Power Saving Engineering Research Center of Ministry of Education, providing the first-class research conditions and platforms for academic research and technology innovation. In recent five years, the school has undertaken a total of 38 national '973 Program', National Science and Technology Support Program, '863 Program', and key research and development projects, 9 major/key programs and major international cooperation programs of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, 116 general and youth programs of the National Natural Science Foundation of China; the number of program funded of the school ranks among the top of the National Natural Science Foundation of China in electrical engineering disciplines for consecutive years, with a total funding of RMB 176 million; in the past five years, it has won 4 national science and technology awards, and more than 50 provincial and ministerial science and technology awards; it has published more than 20 academic books and 24 high-cited ESI papers and obtained more than 260 authorized national invention patents.


Adhering to the international development strategy and relying on the 111 Talent Introduction Base of 'Great Power Grid Protection and Security Defense', the school has built the NCEPU-EU Nordic Five-University Integrated Energy System Research Center, the NCEPU-Canada University of Manitoba and University of Toronto DC Research Center, and NCEPU-USA Current Protection and Control Research Center. It has jointly held 10 international academic conferences such as 'The Fourth Energy Forum' and 'The Fourth International Conference on Renewable Power Generation', jointly undertaken more than 10 major research and development programs, and jointly supervised 15 doctoral candidates and 30 postgraduates. It’s recognized by the Ministry of Science and Technology of the P.R.C as a national exemplary base for international scientific and technological cooperation -- 'New Energy Power System International Scientific and Technological Cooperation Base'.

Led by discipline construction, the school insists on talent training as the foundation, team building as the guarantee, and teaching quality as the core, and strives to build a high-level  research institute with reasonable specialty structure, first-class faculty, excellent teaching facilities, advanced scientific research platforms, excellent teaching quality, and fruitful research results, serving the electric power industry, facing social development, and having a certain influence at home and abroad.
